In Obama’s America, this is what happens to kids who try to celebrate Christmas. That’s according to Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who accuses the president of waging a “war on religion” in a new campaign ad. Uh, what?

That ad pissed me off for SO MANY REASONS. Gross gross gross. As someone who was an open and practicing christian while in school (and I doubt enough has changed since then that this is no longer true) I never once got in trouble for praying or openly stating my beliefs. I was one of the students in charge of the christian club and we met around the flagpole every wednesday morning before school and had a prayer circle. Our club got its picture in the yearbook just like every other student-formed club. I wore christian band t-shirts and pro-life t-shirts and was very loud about my beliefs. This never once got me in any kind of trouble with the teachers or administration. The idea that schools allow any expression of religion EXCEPT christianity (something I’ve heard a few republican friends and family spout off about) is so ridiculously off-base. It isn’t true. Now, if they’re talking about school prayer as an institution, like the whole class is led in prayer… if they can’t see what’s horribly wrong with that entire idea, then whoa. I’m done. I give up.
btw, I am no longer anti-choice or christian and those who didn’t know me then probably find this back-story HIGHlarious.
